There’s something timeless about a beach maternity session — the wind, the waves, the quiet anticipation of new life. This session was one of my favorites: soft light, natural movement, and a mother-to-be glowing in the simplicity of the moment.

Charleston Maternity Session - Amanda + Curtis
There's something about maternity sessions that has me feeling all of the love!
This maternity session with Curtis & Amanda was so much fun that I couldn’t wait to share it with you! I’m so happy for the two of them. There's something about maternity sessions that has me feeling all of the love!
We met on a chilly Saturday morning in North Charleston at the old Navy base, which is now the Riverfront Park. Thankfully, the sun made its appearance shortly after we began, and it turned out to be a gorgeous day. Sidenote for those in Charleston: if you haven't been there before, it's totally worth visiting! There is a riverwalk, dog park, playground, and lots of beautiful trees & homes to check out.
Now back to the session - I often ask couples if they see a spot they like or if there are any "poses" they’d like to try. Note my placement of quotes in quotation marks because I loathe "super posey everybody looks at the camera and says cheese" photos. Most time when I ask, I hear crickets. It was a totally different experience on Saturday, and I enjoyed it! Throughout the shoot, Curtis had so many suggestions, and his ideas led us to some of our favorite images! Furthermore, I intend to use them in all of my future sessions (I hope he does not request royalties!). Bonus points if you can guess which ideas were his!
One of the coolest parts about being a newborn photographer is getting to know the couples I photograph before the baby arrives Earthside. Getting to know the parents during newborn sessions is great, but it's even more wonderful to witness and document them as a couple right before they become a family of three.
I really enjoy shooting maternity sessions and feel honored and delighted each time a family chooses me to capture such a beautiful season in their lives.
